Studio

As I first stepped into the studio I was getting really nervous. As I found a seat Mrs. Waterson stepped into the class. As she gave us all a sheet she asked us some questions but Liam answered almost all of them. When the questions were all answered she asked us if we wanted horizontal or vertical board for our quiz. The fun thing about the board was that we had to build the board for ourselves. We had to cut the stands for the board, sandpaper the pieces for the board, drill holes in the sides with a press drill for the wires to come out and glue all the pieces of the board together. Everybody that had finished their board got a kit with wires, small bulbs and a battery. Liam and I made the bulb flash by connecting wires. When the next lesson came we had to connect wires and thread them through the holes and solder the wires down. My quiz was almost complete, I just had to put my picture onto the quiz. I quickly and carefully placed my picture on my board. My quiz was complete. I now know how to solder, thread wires and I got better at using sandpaper. My quiz was about the weather and this was the best subject at technology for me.

Pita Bread Recipe
If you like the look of these Pita Bread try making your own with this recipe below. Pita Bead Ingredients:
2 ½ c flour
1t salt
1T sugar
1T yeast
2T olive oil
1C hot water (60-65º)
Method:
Into a large mixing bowl measure 1 cup of the flour and stir in the dry ingredients. Add the oil and water. Mix for about 30 seconds to blend and then beat vigorously with a wooden spoon for 3 minutes. The dough should be a rough shaggy mass that will clean the sides of the bowl.
Stir in the balance of the flour’ ½ c at a time.
Turn the dough onto a lightly floured board and knead for 6 minutes.
Preheat the oven to 250ºC.
Divide the dough into 8 Pieces. Roll into balls, cover with a paper towel and let them rest for 20 minutes.
With the palm of your hand, flatten each ball into a disc. Then roll out into a 12-15cm disc. The thinness is more important than the shape.
Place 2 or 3 of them onto an oven tray and bake for 5 minutes. Repeat with the remaining dough. They should not brown too much.

Bakers in the making
As part of the containers unit one of the year 8 groups made Pita Bread. The smells drifting out of the foods room were wonderful.
Have a look at the Photo Story video Simon made of the Pita Bread making process. See if you can spot the slide that is out of place ... look carefully!

In this photo year 7&8 are cooking.Making kebabs
First you chose what meat you wanted.
Then you cut them into little pieces, not too small, just so you can put on your stick.
Then when they’re cut you need to put them on your stick.
Then let them cook on the bbq for a few minutes. you can tell they’re cooked when they’re brown not pink.
Remember to twist every couple of minutes.
And the best part is now you get to eat them.
I learnt how to cook meat and I learnt on the bbq you have to be very careful.

Studio work

This is a picture of an electronic quiz made by Postage school year 7&8.
To make an electronic quiz you must firstly make a cover from the computer with a title, a few pictures and the names of the pictures as well (Pictures and names must be separated, also don’t forget to print and laminate your cover you made/make !)
Secondly you must have an A5 piece of flat wood with two flat wooden stand-ups at the back of the A5 piece of flat wood to stand your work up.
Thirdly you must staple your cover on the A5 piece of flat wood then drill a hole next to each picture on your laminated cover.
That is all I know of how to make an electronic
But the thing I learned about the most was soldering, It was pretty hard and I got burnt a lot but It was still fun.

cooking

I think cooking is the best because the food is yum and I can cook at home. I like the cup cakes the best because they are yum and fun to cook. I had to take them to school or eat them here at tech. I liked the icing, chocolate chips and M&M’s and that’s what I like best.
I learned that I have to be careful with the really sharp knives and not play with it.
I’ve learned that it is about learning how to cook at home by cooking here.

The Cooking Room

This was my first year at TECH, I was very excited but didn’t know what to expect!!! We first started off on computers. We had a great time while learning something new each Tuesday, but I have to say food was my favorite mainly because it was food (really nice food that WE had made by ourselves). REAL COOL! My favourite lesson for food was definitely the last one……
We made seasoned wedges, a platter which included carrots, celery sticks, two different dips (cheese & sour cream and chives) and my favorite one the MUFFINS. We had all sorts of icing stuff to put on our muffins including m&m, chocolate, hundred’s & thousands, sprinkles and much more!!
What I learned while I was in the kitchen was how to use an oven!!!!!

How to make cupcakes

The recipe for the little cakes in cooking class is:
Ingredients-
60 g butter (softened)
1/3 c sugar
1 egg
¾ c S.R. flour
¼ c milk
Method-
1. Cream butter and sugar.
2. Add egg and mix well.
3. Add flour and milk and mix well.
4. Spoon mixture into paper cases.
5. Bake at 180º for 10-15 minutes.
6. Ice and decorate as required.
The reason why I liked this so much is because it was delicious.
I learned how to cream butter and sugar and how to put icing on the cake. To cream butter you need to put in the microwave for 15-20 seconds and then put sugar in it and stir it. It needed to look fluffy.
For the icing you needed to get a knife and spread the icing around.

Cooking - Cheese sauce
This year was my first year at tech I didn’t know what to expect. All the year 7’s last year were happy but they DID know what to expect. All the NEW year sevens were getting very nervous. We thought it was going to be really cool. I thought it was the most fun in foods because you had something to bring home every time you did something in tech. My favourite thing I did in food was making muffins. I was very proud of my muffins I had iced them with Zoe and made the sponge underneath. I had also made a platter for the side dish with celery and carrots and wedges with a VERY nice cheese sauce and also a sour cream and chive sauce. I had made the cheese sauce for every one!!!!!!!! That was the best day at tech EVER.

Here is the recipe for;
CHEESE SAUCE
1T.butter
2T. Flour
200mls milk
1cup grated cheese
METHOD
1) Melt the butter ; 1 min in microwave .stir in flour make paste.

3) microwave 1 min in microwave another minute and whisk well till thick and smoth
4) add grated cheese stir well

We made this delicious dish in the cooking Room with Miss Skuse at Plimmerton school technology centre. This dish has carrots sticks, celery sticks with wedges and cheese sauce.
Before we made this dish we had to learn how to cut the potatoes and the carrots and celery.
We needed to put seasoning on the potatoes. I put the spicy seasoning on mine

Eating With Jade

Group 2 made this delicious dish in cooking class. This was at Plimmerton Technology, Jade looks like he want to eat all of it by himself. He looks like he is doing the karakia. They made delicious wedges and healthy carrot and celery sticks, with some cheese sauce. Group 2 made this with a wonderful teacher Miss Skuse. This was my favourite thing in tech because it was food. This was my first time at tech it was fun.. These are some of the skills we learnt…
. We cut up the wedges and then put them on a roasting dish with a bit of oil.
. Then we cut up the celery in half then in half again
. To make the sauce we put cheese and milk
. Then we ate it, it was delicious YUM!!!

Quiz

This photo explains what we made when we were in computers and studio. First we started in computers. We had to think of what we wanted to do. When we had it in mind we had to go onto the internet and find images of the subject we were doing, like what’s on the photo. This persons subject was flowers. Next we had to copy and paste all the photos you wanted into Microsoft Word. Then we had to write the names of the images next to them. After that we printed it out and laminated them and put it onto this wood cover so that we could stick all the electronic stuff to make the L.E.Ds work. We also attached a wire, so that when we made it touch the pins that were next to the names of the subjects, the L.E.Ds would light up. There was a red L.E.D for when it was wrong and a green L.E.D for when it was right.

cooking wedges
IN THIS PHOTO WE LEARNT HOW TO MAKE WEDGES WITH SEASONING AND CHEESE SAUCE DIP, WE ALSO ADDED APPLE AND CARROTS. WE STARTED WITH THE WEDGES. YOU HAD TO CUT THE POTATO IN SLICES
AND PUT THEM INSIDE A ROASTING DISH , PUT A BIT OF OLIVE OIL ON THEM AND PUT SEASONING OVER THE TOP. THEN WE PUT THEM INSIDE THE OVEN AT 180 DEGREES AND WE LET THEM COOK OVER INTERVAL.
THEN WE CAME INSIDE ADDED THE APPLE AND CARROT, WHICH WE CUT UP AND WE MADE CHEESE SAUCE AND THIS IS WHAT WE ENDED UP WITH.
I REALLY LIKED GOING TO COOKING CLASS WITH MISS SKUSE AND I REALLY WANT TO LEARN MORE ABOUT COOKING . MY LEAST FAVOURITE PART WAS DISHES
. IT WAS KIND OF FUN , ALSO THE FOOD WAS YUMMY.

This year was my first time coming to technology. My favourite thing was the hard materials room and the teachers name was Mr Kilpatrick. I learnt that you shouldn’t be a fool around a tool and how to burn (iron) the writing or the picture for the puzzle. We had to dye the puzzle pieces and the cover if we wanted and do a design on the cover if we wanted as well. We all so made some sides and we had to glue them on the right way up because if we didn’t then we would have no top. Here is a picture of what a puzzle is supposed to look like.
